So I looked at Rachel Griffith's friendship bag tutorial, was inspired, and used that inspiration to go off and do my own thing with a larger, modified version of her bag...
Instead of using the 1 1/2" strips (as she had a honey bun and I had a charm pack...Charleston V by Judy Rothermel for Marcus Fabrics...civil war prints), I used the 5" squares, cut them in half, and pieced the body of the bag that way. I also added pockets to my lining, as I intend to use it as a purse, and made the straps (scrappy and pieced...love them!) longer, so I can sling it over my shoulder with ease. All done in one day (if you don't count the fact that it was officially the next day when I finished at a tad past midnight!). The toggle button is from my mom's button box; I believe it came off of an old car coat of hers, so it's extra special.
Nice way to start off August ... I'll call it an early birthday present to myself!
I really liked Rachel's bag, and marked it in my favorites to make (someday...), but yours is super cute too (love the colors)! Maybe one day I'll be creative enough (or confident enough...) to actually try something like that on my own without the big fat instruction manual sitting on my lap!
ReplyDeleteTurned out sweet...good job!
ReplyDeleteThis is very, very cute! I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteThat's cute, but where's my birdie sling? ;)
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! Patterns are for idea and beginnings, not to be copied slavishly! Your bag is great!
